South Central Kansas Artists Guild Meeting featuring David Vollbracht

February 10, 2016:
Guild Members: Thanks for attending this month’s meeting. A special note of thanks to David for sharing his expertise on each of his paintings in the current Filley exhibit.  It was fascinating to see everyone’s creative interpretations of the poem as well.
Upcoming events
-David will be teaching a painting workshop through the Filley – we will announce dates soon!
– Dennis Hodges’ Gallery Talk at the Filley – Feb. 20th at 6pm: Wine and Cheese reception
-Through Feb. 19th at The Riney – see local artist Hannah Garrison’s artwork of animals
-Next guild meeting is March 9th at 7pm at PCC

Monday, February 8h, 2016: Skyline 7th Grade Social Studies Class: Mrs Beeson’s class

Wonderful tour led by docent Beth Novotny! Thanks to Skyline 7th grade Social Studies class for visiting! We hope you enjoyed both exhibits! Photos here show some of the lessons students focused on this morning as part of Dennis Hodges’ exhibit “A sense of his soul.” Students discussed elections in different countries and located Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Croatia, Romania and Guatemala, to discuss the images attempts to give us a glimpse into the mind of the politicians that run today’s countries. Students also discussed American voting privileges and cast a ballot  for candidates. Additionally they were exposed to techniques for how to encounter and interpret art and several different mediums. Thank you Mrs. Beeson – hope to see you again soon! The museum is a wonderful educational resource – student tours are FREE and we are flexible on tour timing. Monday morning bright and early worked well for these students!
